The Last Tram to Malabar comprises alterations and additions to an existing bungalow in Malabar. The new roof form takes cues from the suburb’s former trams and the distinctive coastal chapel at nearby Little Bay, connecting the architecture to the history and character of its place.
The clients loved the relaxed coastal character of the existing home and wanted to create a family house that could grow with them while making the most of its coastal views. The design balances thoughtful expansion with restraint—adding space and value without overcapitalising or losing the laid-back qualities that make living in Malabar so appealing.
