Bungalow Pop-Top comprises alterations and additions to an existing Californian bungalow a stone’s throw from Coogee Beach. The design takes cues from the roof form of the former surf lifesaving clubhouse and the pop-top camper vans associated with Australia’s relaxed beach and surf culture.
Like the campers that inspired it, the project adopts a simple idea: pop the top to create more room. A new upper level allows a growing family to stay longer in the place they love, expanding the existing bungalow while retaining its character and connection to Coogee’s coastal setting.
